De Food Robots

Knol-ontwerp takes the AdMoVeo on tour with Nerdlab. AdMoVeos serve as ‘de food robots’, catching the attention from ‘Cursor’, the university newspaper of TU Eindhoven:

“TU/e’s TUlip vertoont kunsten op Nerdlab

7 oktober 2010 - Mediakunstenaars, technici en wetenschappers presenteren hun werk op het gebied van robotica tijdens ‘Nerdlab 8: Robots on tour’. Het multidisciplinaire festival strijkt zondag 10 oktober neer in Eindhoven, om precies te zijn bij TAC aan de Vonderweg. Onder meer de TUlip van de faculteit Werktuigbouwkunde mag er laten zien wat hij kan.

Interactieve installaties, diverse demonstraties, optredens en films zijn op Nerdlab te zien. De presentaties bestaan uit robot art en kinetics, maar ook experimenteel onderzoek op het gebied van robotica. Onder andere de ‘TUlip’, de 1.20 meter hoge ‘humanoid’ van de TU/e-faculteit Werktuigbouwkunde, mag tijdens Nerdlab8 zijn kunsten vertonen. De robot kan zelfstandig lopen en bewegingen uitvoeren en heeft twee minicamera’s op de kop waarmee hij objecten of gezichten kan herkennen en volgen (lees meer over de TUlip in de Cursor van volgende week).

De TU/e was ook betrokken bij de totstandkoming van de Food Robots (zie foto) van het ontwerptrio Knol, dat mede wordt gevormd door twee alumni van de faculteit Industrial Design. De robots serveren op wegwerpservies een mix van gezond en goed eten. Verder zijn onder meer de synthesizer auto van Gijs Gieskes te zien, de bizarre ‘robotdieren’ van beeldend kunstenaar Erik Fakkeldij en de Mechanische Dirigent van Bert Vogels.

Nerdlab is georganiseerd door de Digitale Werkplaats ’s-Hertogenbosch in samenwerking met Noisivion uit Breda en het Eindhovense MAD Emergent Art Center. (MvdV)”

Girls from KNOL design borrowed some AdMoVeo‘s to serve salt and pepper for their food design activities , and have been on omroep brabant last saturday.

AdMoVeo featured in Tom’s Guide

Tom’s Guide published an article by Paul Escallier, in which the AdMoVeo is featured as one of the “30 Inventions From Regular Guys”. We are happy to see that AdMoVeo is getting more attention, although we are listed as “regular guys”

AdMoVeo: An Educational Robotic Platform for Learning Behavior Programming

This video, made by Sjriek Alers, has been shown as part of a Demo on DeSForM 360, the 5th International Workshop on Design & Semantics of Form & Movement October 26 & 27, 2009 Taipei, Taiwan. It is a compilation of some of the student work for the assignment Creative Programming for designers (Creapro) Showing what the students have learned in behavioral programming with the AdMoVeo robot platform and using the Arduino.

Most of the design students do not have inherent affinity towards programming and electronics. The AdMoVeo robotic platform is designed, purely for teaching the industrial design students basic skills of programming and for motivating and encouraging the design students to explore their creativity with their passions in graphical and behavioral design.

AdMoVeo: A Robotic Platform for Teaching Creative Programming to Designers

Abstract. Designing intelligent products, systems and related services require the designers to be able to integrate technology in their designs. Among other skills, programming is the key for the designers to prototype and experiment with the intelligent behaviors. However most of the design students do not have inherent affinity towards programming and electronics. The AdMoVeo robotic platform is designed, purely for the purpose of teaching the industrial design students basic skills of programming. Moreover we aim at a platform that motivates and encourages the design students to explore their creativity with their passions in graphical and behavioral design. This paper presents the hardware and software design of the platform, and shares the experiences in using it in a programming course.
